October 9, 2025, Beijing, China – Global semiconductor solutions supplier Renesas Electronics today announced the launch of three new magnet-free Inductive Position Sensor (IPS) ICs: the RAA2P3226, RAA2P3200, and RAA2P4200. This product series offers high resolution, accuracy, and reliability, serving as an ideal replacement for traditional magnetic or optical encoders, which typically involve higher costs and frequent maintenance. Renesas simultaneously introduced a web-based coil design tool to help customers quickly create customized coil solutions for diverse application requirements.
Utilizing inductive coil sensing technology with simple metal targets and coil configurations, these sensors can accurately detect rotational, linear, or arc positions. They demonstrate exceptional environmental resilience, maintaining stable operation under harsh conditions including high temperature, dust, moisture, vibration, and electromagnetic interference. Furthermore, their inductive principle makes them immune to stray magnetic fields and eliminates maintenance needs, making them particularly suitable for demanding fields such as robotics, medical devices, smart buildings, motor control, and industrial automation.
The three sensor ICs cater to different performance emphases: the RAA2P3226 and RAA2P3200 support electrical speeds up to 600K RPM with under 100 nanoseconds delay, meeting the demands of high-speed motor applications. The flagship RAA2P3226 offers 19-bit resolution and greater than 0.01° absolute accuracy, targeting high-precision industrial and robotics applications. The RAA2P4200 is optimized for low-speed scenarios like medical devices and power tools. All models feature built-in auto-calibration and linearization functions, simplifying system design and enhancing overall performance.
Additionally, Renesas plans to launch automotive-grade IPS products, the RAA2P452x and RAA2P4500, later this year. These solutions will provide cost-effective options for body control and chassis systems, with the dual-channel RAA2P452x enabling ASIL D functional safety when paired with a Renesas microcontroller.
