November 4, 2025, Shanghai, China – ROHM Co., Ltd., a globally renowned semiconductor manufacturer, today announced the successful development of the high-speed, high-accuracy proximity sensor 'RPR-0730'. Utilizing a VCSEL (Vertical-Cavity Surface-Emitting Laser) as the light-emitting element, this product can accurately detect fine objects that are difficult to identify with traditional LED light sources, providing a more reliable sensing solution for consumer electronics and industrial equipment.
The new product employs a reflective photoelectric sensor design. By combining an infrared VCSEL with excellent directivity and a phototransistor with analog output functionality, it achieves precise detection of fine lines as narrow as 0.1mm with a response time of just 10 microseconds. This makes it particularly suitable for applications requiring high-speed sensing, such as label printers, conveyor systems, and copiers, effectively performing tasks like print detection and gear rotation detection.
The RPR-0730 features an ultra-compact package (2.0mm × 1.0mm × 0.55mm) and incorporates a visible light cut filter resin, effectively suppressing ambient light interference to ensure stable operation in complex environments like factories and outdoors. Its compact design facilitates installation in confined spaces, further expanding its application potential in precision instruments.
As a new member of ROHM's digital-output RPR-0720 sensor series, the RPR-0730, with its exceptional high-speed response and high accuracy, will provide crucial technical support for the development of industrial automation and the intelligentization of office equipment.
