Shanghai, China – May 13, 2026 – ams OSRAM (SIX: AMS), a global leader in lighting and sensing innovation, today announced the launch of the OSLON™ Black IR:6 C series of high-power infrared emitters. As automotive intelligence continues to advance, driver assistance systems are shifting from external perception to interior spaces. In-cabin sensing technology is designed to perceive the dynamics inside the vehicle in real time, helping the car become a safety guardian for the driver, passengers, and other road users.
This series of infrared emitters is specifically designed for camera-based in-cabin sensing systems. Operating at 940nm wavelength, they effectively suppress the red-eye effect and provide unobtrusive infrared illumination. Optimized for driver monitoring (detecting distraction or fatigue) and occupant monitoring (passenger presence, child or pet left-behind alerts), the product helps prevent accidents, making the vehicle an active safety collaborator.
“In-cabin sensing is not just a technology trend; it is about responsibility on the road,” said Tobias Hofmeier, Product Marketing Manager at ams OSRAM. “When a vehicle can perceive the interior situation with greater precision, it can protect occupants at critical moments.”
The OSLON™ Black IR:6 C series delivers stable, uniform infrared illumination, capable of capturing key information such as facial features and gaze direction, even under low light or sudden changes in illumination. The 940nm wavelength makes the infrared light nearly invisible, greatly improving user acceptance and comfort during night driving. The emitter supports mature applications such as driver monitoring, occupant detection, and child presence detection, as well as future scenarios including medical emergency detection, cognitive state monitoring, and drunk or unusual behavior detection. Additionally, the series offers various beam angles and optical configurations (model: OSLON™ Black SFH 472XXCS A01), providing designers with high flexibility.
